Preventative Dentistry
At the core of our Preventative Dentistry services is a commitment to proactive oral care. We focus on comprehensive examinations and a range of preventive measures to keep your smile radiant and healthy.
Comprehensive Examinations
All of our new patients receive a thorough examination of their overall oral health.
This includes an in-depth review of current/past medical and dental history, evaluation of the TMJ, oral cancer screening, and a focused evaluation of both the teeth and periodontium.
This also often includes a radiographic evaluation (x-rays) and may also include intra-oral scanning to track surface changes on the teeth over time.
Oral Prophylaxis
(“Routine Dental Cleanings”)
Our routine dental cleanings are recommended in 6-month, 4-month, or 3-month intervals based on customized recommendations to prevent oral disease and maintain oral health.
Our Hygienist re-evaluate the current status of your oral health at each visit, makes patient specific home care recommendations, and offers specialized products to help with self management of oral health between professional visits.
Scaling and Root Planing
(“Deep Cleanings”)
For our patients who have significant tartar/calculus that is attached to the roots below the gums, a professional deep cleaning is often necessary. This type of cleaning is focused on a particular area of the mouth and performed to treat deep gum pockets.
Once these problem areas are meticulously cleaned, and followed by proper home care, we are able to shrink the deep pockets to reduced gingivitis and return the gums to their healthy state.
Night Guards
Our custom-made night guards are designed to both protect our patients from nighttime grinding (“Buxism”) and stabilize the jaw joints (TMJ).
These appliances are made using an evidence based approach to maintaining long term jaw comfort with protection against tooth wear.
Sports Guards
Popularized by NBA star Stephen Curry, we offer customized sports guards in various colors and designs for protection of the teeth during contact sports or heavy clenching during exercise.
In-Office Fluoride Treatments
Our in-office topical fluoride treatments are placed on the teeth after a routine dental cleaning for patients who are at risk for developing tooth decay.
These topical treatments have proven to significantly reduce the risk of developing future decay and help to remineralize softened enamel to develop harder and more decay resistant teeth.
Custom Home Care Packages
Our recommended home care products are customized based on the specific needs of our patients. This may include specific types of toothpaste, floss, mouth rinse, toothbrushes, water picks, chewing gum, mints, interdental brushes, chapstick, etc.
Our entire team is trained to provide the best recommendations for the specific needs of our patients
Sealants
Dental Sealants are often recommended for teeth that have very deep grooves that trap food and lead to cavities.
With this pain-less numbing-free procedure, we are able to clean out the grooves with a process called microparticle air-abrasion and then the grooves are sealed over with a composite resin to allow food to slip off the tooth and reduce the risk for decay.
De-Sensitization
For patients that come to us with teeth that are sensitive to cold, hot, touch, biting, etc., we start by evaluating the cause of the sensitivity and then offer a variety of different solutions.
We often can reduce sensitivity in one or more different ways with both treatments and/or topical medicaments.
What our patients say
My 93 year old father went to Piedmont Advanced Dentistry for a cleaning and to have a crown repaired. The staff was wonderful, kind and helpful. My father can be difficult, and they were very good with him. We were very pleased and look forward to going back.
